Getting a second opinion before leaving: X-ray, CBCT, fresh look

Nothing obligates blind trust in a foreign clinic. Getting a second opinion, especially on a major treatment plan, is a right and a common practice. Here's how to do it simply, without ruffling feathers.

What documents to request

You're entitled to: your panoramic and 3D scan (CBCT) in DICOM format, your itemized costed treatment plan, brand and reference of planned implants. A serious clinic sends them on request, free, no questions asked.

Who to send the file to

Your regular dentist is the first contact. Some independent dentists offer paid 'remote second opinion' (€80-150). On teleconsultation platforms, filter by 'dental telehealth'. Many practitioners now accept this type of review.

What the second opinion really covers

Number and placement of implants, need or not for grafting, chosen prosthesis type, chronological order of the plan. Rarely a full reversal, often detail adjustments — and above all, your peace of mind.

Comparing two foreign quotes

A second quote from another Tunisian (or Hungarian/Turkish) clinic is also a form of second opinion. Compare identical treatment: implant brand, crown type (zirconia vs E-max), inclusion of extractions and grafting. A cheaper quote missing items isn't cheaper.

Does Tunisia Smile really encourage this?

Yes, unreservedly. We send the full file to whoever you want at no extra cost, and accept plan modifications if a second opinion recommends them. A clinic that refuses or stalls is one to avoid.

A second opinion isn't distrust — it's normal prudence. Panoramic, scan, itemized plan: request them and cross-check. A practitioner confident in their plan is confident in it being verified.
